Genelia: I see myself fit into spunky roles

Bollywood actor Genelia D'Souza feels that she tunes well with 'teen-aged spunky characters' and does not want to portray herself in 'hot' image at present.

"There are enough of girls doing hot scenes, I see myself fit into teenaged spunky characters," Genelia said when she visited Kolkata to unveil a new lounge- 'Nocturne'.

The actor said she is eager to work in Bengali movies if she gets the opportunity in future.

"I am hundred percent eager to work in Kolkata. I would love to do Bengali as well." she said.

The Southern beauty also expressed her desire to work with filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh in her coming years.

Speaking on the occasion, Genelia said that to her, partying at a lounge is all about relaxation.

"For me partying at the lounge is all about relaxation. We are in a competitive world, it is truly better to have places like Nocturne that provide the opportunity to entertain as well as relax," she said.

For Farah Khan and Shirish Kunder, it was taking an altogether different exchange of vows that they shared years after already been married. Before kick starting work on their first ever production together, TEES MAAR KHAN, Farah and Shirish promised each other that they would respect each other's boundaries and wouldn't cross paths unless asked for.

Laughs Farah, "It was very much required otherwise I am sure TEES MAAR KHAN would have never seen the light of the day. Shirish had written the film's screenplay and was also the producer. Naturally he was attached to it but when I stepped in as a director, my first question to him was whether he was willing to let go off the script and allow me to interpret it my way."

What followed next was a list of Do's and don'ts being listed where a code of conduct was drafted.

"I am serious when I say that but it was a clear mandate between us around how we would work on the film together so that there were no problems in the future," adds Shirish, "We made a list of all such things where we may have ended up crossing each other's paths. As a producer, I was flexible enough to give her all that she wanted to make our film look good. She wanted an entire train and an aeroplane for a few days of shoot; I gave her an entire working model to play around with. Of course she was happy and didn't have any reasons to complain."

And if he couldn't say something good, he kept quiet. He doesn't waste his time backbiting."

Vatsal Seth, Tulip Joshi and Mukesh Tewari starrer HOSTEL is all set to divulge audiences with some realistic, dark secrets about ragging this New Year Eve on 31st December 2010.

India is badly affected by ragging, a form of abuse on newcomers to educational institutions and has reportedly caused at least 30 deaths in the last 7 years. This year alone 10 students have lost their lives due to the brutal practice of Ragging. HOSTEL is the only movie that addresses the issue of ragging.

HOSTEL is written & directed by Manish Gupta (writer of SARKAR) and is a story inspired by true life events of various boys' hostels. HOSTEL is a film about a student played by Vatsal Seth who enters a notorious hostel and is ragged by his seniors. It's not just about one incident but a string of incidents and is a hard-hitting reality-action film. It shows how students are tortured and harassed in the name of ragging.

"There are many suicides that occur in Indian hostels due to ragging wherein students are beaten up, stripped, paraded naked, starved, tortured, molested and even raped by their seniors. Since victims of ragging find it humiliating to report sexual abuse to their parents or others, most ragging-related crimes go unreported. HOSTEL deals with the serious issue of ragging and through this film I want to show the world what actually a victim of ragging goes through," says writer & director Manish Gupta.

'Ragging' is a sadistic practice that has become a ritual in most of the Indian hostels. Sadly, the students who are a victim of ragging - in turn vent their frustrations by ragging their juniors in the following years. Bollywood heartthrob Imran Khan has been roped in for Coca-Cola's latest communication campaign 'Shadow'.

Part of the global 'Open Happiness' campaign in India, this is the first ever campaign in the history of Coca-Cola India, which was first released on mobile phones and online media and is now being released on television.

The campaign has already been downloaded and previewed by over 300,000 consumers and already has over 90,000 referrals online.

According to Anand Singh, Director-Marketing, Coca-Cola India, "Through the latest 'Shadow' Campaign, we aim to further create a strong emotional connect with today's youth by highlighting the need to connect with the people around us in our busy cosmopolitan life."

The latest communication is targeted at the youth and reinforces the need to connect with other human beings in this lonely world. Using visually exciting elements of shadow puppetry, the latest 'Shadow' film showcases how a bottle of Coca-Cola acts as a catalyst in making an instant connection between two strangers.

The silent yet unique interaction of the two protagonists bridging the gap of urban isolation and connecting over a bottle of Coca-Cola - has been aptly captured and is best explained by the tagline 'Coke Khule Toh Baat Chale' (Coke Opens Up Possibilities).

NTR joins the ‘brand’-wagon: Endorses Zandu Balm

NTR Jr. too joins the brand endorsing bandwagon. He has signed as the brand ambassador of Zandu Balm in Andhra Pradesh. This is the first time for the young superstar to endorse a brand.

His first commercial for Zandu Balm is currently being shot at Mumbai. NTR Jr. will be back in Hyderabad on 13th Dec after completing the Zandu Balm ad shoot.

What is interesting here is NTR’s closest competitor in films is endorsing Amrutanjan pain balm. Now Amrutanjan’s rival, Zandu Balm chose NTR to counter it. So, it is now Amrutanjan’s Khaleja versus Zandu Balm’s Shakti!

Genelia leaves Orange behind and moves on

Orange movie is still fighting the lost battle in few A centers. However, it is likely to give way to Nagavalli that is slated for release on 16 Dec. Orange has been in news for all wrong reasons these days. Nagababu’s outburst upon directors (targeting Bhaskar) has been the topic of the week.

He also blasted at Genelia, the lead actress of Orange for her non-cooperation during the shoot. Nagababu said that Genelia and her mother demanded for extra bucks to participate in the shoot. He alleged that Genelia's mother blackmailed him by telling that her daughter won’t attend the shoot if the extra amount is not paid. Probably, this is the first time Genelia is facing such allegations in public. Also the bubbly actress received so much flak for her over the board performance in Orange.

However, Genelia, who is completely aware of all this ‘drama’ behind, is not in a mood to complain or confess. She has already moved on to her next project. She is right now busy with Khakka Khakka (Gharshana) remake in Hindi. She is starring opposite John Abraham in this film directed by Nishikant Kamat.

Tollywood Trade Report

Kathi Kantha Rao starring Allari Naresh was released on Friday and has started its box office journey on a promising note. The film has got average reviews from almost all the critics. None of them has written off the film and branded it as time pass entertainment. It has good chances to fare well in B and C centers.

Manasara, on the other hand failed to impress the target audience. Critics too gave it thumbs down and almost all the reviews declared it as a bad film. Hence, Ravibabu is likely to bag another dud after his miserable last outing with Amaravathi.

Orange is declared as a big flop but is still running in many theatres due to no big films in the market at the moment. Orange theatre count will drastically come down with Nagavalli’s arrival on next Friday. Rakta Charitra 2 ended up as a flop. It has failed to create the same buzz as first part despite Surya’s presence in it.
